Davao designers in 'Habi, Badu, at Kalyak'

THE stunning creations of Alfonso "Boy" Guino-o, the Czar of Mindanao Fashion, along with six other renowned fashion designers from Davao were highlighted in a show dubbed as "Habi, Badu, at Kalyak (Weavings, Clothing, and Accessories)."
The Habi, Badu, at Kalyak, which was staged at SMX Convention Center here last August 21, was a Mindanao Fashion Show that was aimed at presenting the local artisans' collection of Mindanao weaves and beads in the form of an elaborate visual statement. The collection mainly consisted of clothing, but also featured shoes, handbags, and accessories.
The fashion show was the closing highlight of the National MSME Summit held in the same venue last August 20 and 21. The Summit was a convergence of more than 700 entrepreneurs, industry leaders, representatives from the academe, private and public sectors, and other MSME development stakeholders.
First to amaze the Summit participants were some traditional garments and fashion accessories worn by both male and female models who proved that these particular fashion pieces can actually be mixed with modern garbs to achieve a chic look.
The parade of traditional fashion pieces was followed by the bag collections display of Carmaela Alcantara of Crystal Seas Hand-woven and Handcrafted Products, and the clothing creations of Davao Elite Fashion Group's Emi-Alexander Englis, Edgar Buyan, Dodjie Batu, Junnie Artajo, and Aztec Barba.
The sophisticated traditional costumes of Boy Guino-o were last presented. His creations are definitely fabulous and ageless! Being in the fashion industry for the longest time, Tito Boy, as he is fondly called, has proven once again that his enthusiasm and gift for fashion has never waned all these years.
