Constructions drop by 33% in Q2

Constructions of residential and non-residential buildings in Davao Region's four provinces dropped by 33.09 percent in the second quarter this year, recording at least 1,672 buildings as compared to the same period last year with 2,499.

Based on the data obtained from the National Statistics Office (NSO) in Davao Region, Davao del Sur posted the highest decrease, among all four provinces, at 39.79 percent from 1,553 down to only 935 residential and non-residential constructions based on the second quarter data of 2012 and 2013, respectively.

This was followed by Davao Oriental with a total of 49 residential and non-residential constructions, down by 30.98 percent decrease from 71 last year; Compostela Valley at 26.58 percent decrease from 252 to 185; and 19.26 percent decrease in Davao del Norte from 623 to 503.

Residential constructions decreased by 34.11 percent with a total of 1,186 buildings erected as of second quarter this year as against 1,800 of the same period last year.

The second quarter data of NSO-Davao Region also reported that construction for non-residential buildings reached to a total of 248 buildings, lower by 22.5 percent as compared to 320 buildings of the same period of 2012.

In the region, the combined floor area for residential and non-residential constructions reached to a total of 216,125 square meters with a combined value of P2.4 billion.

While in Mindanao, there are a total of 5,456 residential and non-residential buildings with a collective estimated value of P5.5 billion.
