DIGOS CITY – The chief of police of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, could lose his job for allegedly firing his gun inside a cockpit over a disagreement with a fellow bettor.

Senior Superintendent Ronald dela Rosa, provincial police director, said an administrative case against Senior Inspector Wilfredo Santillana has been filed and was being reviewed. Based on the information, Santillana recently went to a cockpit in the town’s Barangay (village) Astorga but did not pay up when he lost.

The beleaguered police official said he did not make a bet so he did not have to pay anybody.

He admitted having fired his gun, but said he did so to dissuade some people from playing hantak (coin toss).

Dela Rosa said if the review proved that Santillana violated the code of conduct for police officers, he could face dismissal.
