MAYOR Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the reinstatement of Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Vicente D. Danao Jr. to his post on October 2, one month after he was administratively relieved by the police regional director following the complaint filed against him by his estranged wife.

The city police director resumed his post after Davao Police Regional Office (PRO) Director Wendy Rosario signed October 1 the recommendation for Danao's reinstatement, which was made two weeks ago.

Duterte, in his television program "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" on Sunday, said Danao deserved to go back to his post as DCPO director.

He said the YouTube video that surfaced showing Danao hitting his wife could not be a reason to relieve him for good.

"Kining uban ba ma-sobraan ka bright, ambak didto ambak diri. Kita sila sa footage. Nakita nila there was a scuffle, pero ang sunod didto nakita ninyo? I'm not trying to defend Danao. But you know giingnan ta mo, kinsa bang magtiayon at one time or another wala nag away?" Duterte said.

Duterte said the decision to relieve Danao over the YouTube video was not the best thing to do -- not by those who are also facing the same domestic concern. He said there was never violence in that video.

"Kanang nag post sa video, kung kinsa man tong nag post sa video, s/he should be the one to be charged for violation of privacy. Gituyo gani ug kuha for personal interest which is really bad, that is a violation of law," Duterte said.

Though Danao had returned to his post, the administrative case filed by his wife that is being heard by the Regional Internal Affairs Services (RIAS)-Davao will continue.

Charges for four counts of physical injuries and grave misconduct have been filed against the city police director by his wife sometime in 2002.

Danao submitted his counter-affidavit to his wife's complaint last September 19. But it was learned that the administrative case filed against him was dropped since the video uploaded on YouTube does not bear weight in the appreciation of his function as police director.
