US Embassy issues travel advisory

The US Embassy in Manila has recently posted in its website a new travel advisory dated October 10 on additional security threats in Southern Mindanao.

The advisory warned US citizens on a series of credible security threats specifically in region 11 or the Davao region, region 12 that included North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani and in Maguindanao province.

The advisory added that individuals associated with known extremist and insurgent groups are believed to have been conducting surveillance on a number of public locations in the above-mentioned areas as possible
targets of interests.

It also warned its citizens that extremists may elect to use conventional or non-conventional weapons and possibly target official and private interests.

The advisory specified the said target interests as high-profile sporting events, residential areas, business offices, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, schools and public areas frequented by tourists and local residents.
