Phivolcs: Magnitude 5.1 jolts DavSur

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Davao del Sur Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

It said the 4:53 a.m. tectonic quake’s epicenter was 50 kilometers southeast of the island municipality of Sarangani town, off the province’s southern tip, and had a depth of 15 kilometers.

No immediate casualty or aftershock was reported.

Phivolcs has been recording aftershocks of similar magnitude in Bohol after the October 15 7.2-magnitude earthquake that devastated the province and nearby Cebu.

The quake has so far claimed 195 lives and injured 651 others. It also damaged or destroyed tens of thousands of houses and toppled centuries-old churches as well as infrastructure such as roads and bridges.

Also on Tuesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 12 persons remain missing in Bohol.
