THE revival of a popular organic market and a cooking contest will mark the local celebration of World Food Day in Davao City tomorrow, October 25.

The annual celebration adopts a localized theme to emphasize the movement's campaign in popularizing organically grown crops as the answer to Dabawenyos' nutritional needs. It is led by the Go Organic Davao City (GODC) movement together with Masipag and Babas Foundation.

With the theme, "Sufficient, Nutritious and Sustainable Food for all Dabawenyos", the event will showcase fresh produce of small organic farmers from Davao's third district. It will be held at Babas Wellness Center, corner Sales and Uyanguren Sts., (beside Asia Glass Palace).

A variety of heirloom rice, fruits, and vegetables will be sold at the event.

Human Resource and Management students from different schools in the city will participate in the organic cooking contest, following a "Top Chef" format.

A public forum on the dangers of genetically modified organism crops will also be held.

This year's celebration is also part of the Global Green Action Week.

GODC is in partnership with the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and various organizations from Asia, Latin America, and Africa in promoting a healthy, accessible, affordable, and sustainable food production system for all the people.

GODC is a cluster network of Go Organic Mindanao. It is composed of organic agriculture practitioners and advocates in Davao City, united to promote organic agriculture and advocate for the full implementation of the Organic Agriculture Ordinance.

The group engages with the local government of Davao City to mainstream sustainable agriculture and organic farming systems.
