DAVAO City Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte thanked his daughter, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, for giving way to his mayoral candidacy come 2013 elections. In his television program "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" Sunday, the elder Duterte said he has no control on his daughter's decision to give way nor does he know the real reason.

"She gave a statement and I cannot go even further than what she said to the public. Salamat, she was the one who provided the reason. The reason behind the reason is not mine to tell," the elder Duterte said.

In a text message Friday, the young mayor admitted that her father's decision to run for mayor made her decide not to seek any elective position for 2013.

She said she only wanted the mayoral post and not the 1st congressional district post as what is being offered to her by the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod headed by her father.

The mayor denied that it was her pregnancy that pushed her into not running as what many believed.

On his son Paolo Duterte's candidacy for vice mayor, the elder Duterte said the decision was made by majority members of the Hugpong, the barangay captains in particular.

Had Mayor Sara decided to run for Congress, there would have been three Dutertes in the race next year.

Vice Mayor Duterte said that though many would accuse them of dynasty for this, he revealed that majority of the Dabawenyos do not mind three Dutertes serving the public.

In a survey conducted by the Social Weather Station and the Ateneo School of Government few months ago, the Dutertes would win by a landslide in any positions they would seek be it for mayor, vice mayor or Congress.

The elder Duterte said that out of the 1,000 respondents in the survey, their rating is running from 75 to 79 percent while Karlo Nograles only got 14 percent and former House Speaker Prospero Nograles got only nine percent.

"Ako mituo na dili gyud sila musugot ang Dabawenyo anang dynasty dynasty. Pero sa survey misugot ang taga Davao na tulo ka Duterte ang mudagan," Duterte said. He said the survey was commissioned by his friends.

The limit of eight candidates per congressional district for councilors forced Hugpong to declare only eight official candidates per district. But this does not mean that they would no longer be campaigning for the other partymates not included in the official list.

This was the assurance made by the older Duterte on Sunday as he declared that all Hugpong members who are seeking a post will be given their chance to go up the stage and campaign.

In the last elections, Hugpong usually carries all their members in the official candidates list since it officially became a local political party recognized by the Commission on Elections this year, it is now mandated by law to limit their official candidates per congressional districts.

Meanwhile, former vice mayor Louie Bonguyan is a sure winner for the 1st congressional race, this was the assurance made by the older Duterte.

He said this is the main reason why they chose Bonguyan as replacement for Mayor Sara Duterte for Congress.

In an interview before the filing of his certificate of candidacy last Friday, Bonguyan admitted that incumbent Representative Karlo Nograles is a formidable foe.

He said though that he will accept the challenge to face Nograles.
