City Government spends P2.6B in 3rd quarter

THE expenditures of Davao City Government for the first three quarters of this year is pegged at P2,629,968,480.57, which is almost half a billion higher than what the city spent during the same period last year. The statement of income and expenses of Davao City for January-September 30 showed that a large chunk of the P2.6 billion that the city spent for nine months went to maintenance and other operating expenses at P718,632,347.57.

For the same period last year, the city spent P646,894,037.85 for the same account.

Of the P718.6 million that the city spent on maintenance and other operating expenses, more than half of it has been spent for salaries and wages of regular employees of the City Hall at P493,638,530; P135,022,105.51 for other compensation; P68,344,164.47 for personnel benefits contribution; and P21,627,547.20 for other personnel benefits.

For the first nine months of this year, the city spent P11,444,210.67 for communication expenses, which cover Postage and Deliveries -- P64,594.38; Telephone Expenses (Landline) -- P4,361,575.50; Telephone Expenses (Mobile) -- P4,790,414.20; Internet Expenses -- P2,203,702.03; and Cable, Satellite, Telegraph, and Radio Expenses -- P23,924.56.

The sector wherein the city spent the most next to maintenance and other operating expenses is the professional services sector, where the city spent a total of P469,434,276.86 for the same period.

More than half of it or exactly P381,748,111.78 was spent for general services and it is where the city gets its salary for its job order employees.

Under the professional services, the city spent P77,336,205.37 for Environment/Sanitary Services; P5,571,442.19 for consultancy services; P1,800,000 for auditing services; P1,059,228.01 for janitorial services; P1,294,789.51 for security services; and P624,500 for other professional services.

In terms of repair and maintenance expenditure, the city spent P73,075,604.27, which is slightly higher than what it spent last year at P46,327,353.

The same sector covers the city's expenses on repairs and maintenance of city-owned office buildings, hospitals and health centers, market and slaughter house, office equipment, construction and heavy equipment, furniture and fixture, IT equipment and software, communication equipment, medical and dental equipment, technical and scientific equipment, roads, highways, bridges, parks, plazas, monuments, artesan wells, reservoirs, pumping station, and flood controls, among others.
