14th Davao Trade Expo 2012

Manila, Philippines – TEN countries – Japan, China, Singapore, South Korea, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Mexico, and Turkey – are participating in this year’s 14th Davao Trade Expo (DATE) 2012, which showcases the role of livestock, poultry, and aquacultureManila, Philippines – TEN countries – Japan, China, Singapore, South Korea, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Mexico, and Turkey – are participating in this year’s 14th Davao Trade Expo (DATE) 2012, which showcases the role of livestock, poultry, and aquaculture in providing food for every Filipino family, as well as the advantages of the Mindanao region in agriculture, trade, commerce, services, and industry. Mindanao is a net exporter of food, especially hogs, poultry, and aqua products, which it also supplies to Manila, Samar, Leyte, and Cebu. These products enjoy a good local market demand as well as potential for growth, considering the vast market outside the Philippines.

DATE 2012, slated October 25-27, 2012 is organized by the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the theme “Building the Future: Feeding the World Through Sustainable Farming.” Organizers see a bigger expo this year, with the expected participation of 200 exhibitors, 7,000 trade visitors and buyers, and over 1,000 congress delegates. Last year’s trade expo had 121 exhibitors and 4,000 trade exhibitors coming from various parts of Mindanao.

Mindanao agri-trade and industry organizations signed a Memorandum of Agreement, recognizing the 14th Davao Trade Expo in harmonizing and strengthening the region’s economic sectors, particularly agri-fishery. These are the Davao Hog Farmers Association, the Southern Philippines Egg and Poultry Association, the Goat Industry Development Council of Davao, the Mindanao Game Fowl Breeders Association, the Mindanao Integrated Aquaculture Association, the Federation of Cattle Raisers of the Philippines, Inc. (Davao), the Federation of Davao Dairy Farmers Cooperative, and the Davao Association of Veterinary Technical Representative, Inc.

New technologies in farming are introduced to local farmers during the trade expo. There are seminars on how to use animal wastes as source of energy to reduce pollution. A total of 17 speakers will lecture on improving the technical know-how of local farmers. A participant from Malaysia will brief farmers on halal products. Other activities include on agri-trade exhibit, technical seminars, “Pista sa Barrio” fellowship night, Mindanao Livestock, Poultry and Aquaculture Congress, buyers-sellers exchange, and agri-culinary competition.
