Some candidates may be killing each other over the barangay elections, but in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in one village in Davao City, almost no one seems to be interested.

In Barangay Biao Joaquin, only 3 teenagers registered for the SK election. The same teenagers are the only candidates for the SK elections in the barangay on October 25. The sure winners are Ivie Rose for SK chairman and SK kagawads Kristyl Caballero and Sara Canyedo.

Danilo Cullo, election officer in Davao City, has an explanation: teenager residents of the barangay are too young to be interested in politics.

"Mababa ang bilang ng mga nagparehistro kumpara sa projected namin. Mga bata pa kasi, baka hindi interesado," Cullo said.

The election officer said that 4 other barangays in Davao City also have an unusually low number of registered voters.

Only 9 teenagers registered for the barangay elections in Barangay 6-A, 21 in Barangay Gatungan, 23 in Barangay Anglionto and 27 in Barangay Vicente Hizon Sr.

Alvin Paulin, incumbent SK chairman in Barangay Vicente Hizon Sr., said that majority of the teenagers in their village failed to register because they were busy in school.
