A magnitude 5 earthquake struck off Davao at 2:23 a.m. Saturday, the US Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the moderate tremor that was located about 85 kilometers south-southeast of Hinatuan town in the province of Surigao del Sur. It struck at a depth of 141.9 kilometers. This came two days after another moderate quake with a magnitude of 4.8 hit off east-northeast of Manila.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
