Mayor decides to deliver Soca at end of term

THE much-awaited State of the City Address (Soca) of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will not be delivered until June of next year. This, after Duterte-Carpio said on Monday that she will no longer deliver her Soca in November as she had earlier announced and instead come up with the Soca just before her term ends in June next year.
This was the second time that the lady mayor's Soca was postponed.
Duterte-Carpio initially scheduled her Soca on September 25 but was postponed because she got sick that time. She was on her first trimester of pregnancy then.
In an interview with reporters Monday, the mayor said she already asked permission from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Davao City regarding her Soca in 2013, instead of this year.
Duterte-Carpio said she decided to deliver her Soca next year in order to include her five remaining months as the city mayor.
"Kay kung mag Soca ta karon, dili naman maapil tung next year kay mubo naman kaayo kung magbuhat ka ug report five months lang (If I dliver my Soca this month, I cannot include my report for next year for lack of time since making a report in five month’s time is so short)," she said.
She said her Soca will cover the events that transpired from September 2011 to May 2013.
The mayor earlier said three pages of the four-page speech will highlight the achievements and accomplishments of all City Hall departments during the previous year.
She added that she will give each department the prerogative to choose what achievements they want to highlight for their respective areas.
Last year, the mayor delivered a four-page speech that lasted for more than half an hour.
Among the things that Duterte-Carpio mentioned in her last Soca was her firm opposition against mining in the city.
