Three government soldiers were killed in a landmine attack in the hinterlands of this city this morning, the military reported. Lt. Col. Lyndon Paniza, spokesman of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division, said the incident happened around 8:30 a.m. in the village of Paquibato.

Paniza said members of the New People’s Army attacked soldiers of the Army’s 6th Infantry Batallion who were on their way to conduct a community outreach program.

“The explosion was 300 to 400 meters away from the detachment,” he said while citing that it happened few minutes after the troops left their military post.

“Three of our fallen heroes laid the ultimate sacrifice. However, this will not cause us to falter our efforts of winning the peace,” he said.
