The Police Regional Office 11 (PRO-11) has formed a special task force that would look into the latest development concerning an incident involving a victim who is said to be an ally of a well-known clan in Maguindanao.

This developed after PRO 11 spokesman Supt. Querubin Manalang disclosed that Chief Supt. Pedro Tango has ordered the creation of Task Force Tomawis, to be headed by Col. Pedro Cabatingan Jr. of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), to fast-track the investigation on the killing of Barira (Maguindanao) Vice Mayor Alexander Tomawis. Tomawis was shot to death around 10:45 a.m. Sunday by two gunmen, believed to be teenagers, at his house in Hillside Subdivision, Buhangin, this city.

Police reports said that the two suspects pretended to have some documents signed by Tomawis.

After the shooting, Tomawis was rushed to the Davao Doctors Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Manalang disclosed that the task group is now fast-tracking the completion of the artist sketches of the suspects based on the description of some witnesses.

Initial investigation showed that Tomawis was talking to three persons when he was shot by the gunmen on the head.
While there were allegedly six more of his security men at his back.

Manalang said they want to expedite the artist sketch so that it can be made public.

Manalang also said that Tango ordered Supt. Igmedio Garcia of the Crime Laboratory to conduct ballistic examinations to cross match the slugs and shells recovered from the crime scene to the previous shooting incidents that have occurred in the city to determine if it were the same gunmen.

The motive of the killing is still being determined by the police.

Manalang added that they are looking at all angle – business, personal, and political.

In the previous elections, Tomawis was said to have gotten in a row with the military for allegedly commandeering the transport of ballot boxes for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections without permission.

However, Manalang said that they do not want to speculate on the motive of the killing so they are looking at all angles.

He added that the task force is now in the process of collecting and collating all information and pieces of evidence that can point to the identity of the gunmen and the motive behind the killing.

Tomawis’ body was buried in Parang, Maguindanao several hours after the incident.

Tomawis was mayor of Barira for nine years before assuming the vice mayoral post.
