To some Dabawenyos, this is the much awaited return of the restaurant after it closed its franchise store a couple of years back due to quality issues. This time, Laguna Group chief-executive-officer Julita Urbina said the restaurant is company owned; hence, diners can expect the best they have to offer.
With its floor to ceiling windows, you get a very spacious feel of the restaurant. The restaurant's comfortable chairs and tables are arranged to cater to groups of diners, making it a perfect place for families and friends.
The restaurant also has a Davao Corner with designs that are distinctly Davao including ornaments and furnishing.
One thing that really got us excited about the return of Cafe Laguna is its delicious Filipino dishes.
"We offer purely traditional Filipino cuisine like Kare-kare, Fresh Lumpia, and Puto Bong Bong," Urbina said.
Chef Raki Urbina said their heirloom recipe which was created by Julita herself, but refined by him after years of culinary exploration.
"It’s a two-generation recipe. Ours is a rustic way of cooking kare-kare. We make our own paste, and we don’t use any thickeners. It’s just down-to-earth and traditional," Raki said.
However, aside from their regular menu, Cafe Laguna will also be offering dishes that are unique to their Davao branch.
"For Davao we have added its strengths like the Malagos Cheese, which we will use in our bibingka. We are also serving Tuna Sinigang, Tuna Kinilaw, and Crispy Tuna Buntot. As a tribute to our president, we will be serving two versions of monggo -- Monggo with Bulad and one with pork pata," Julita said.
She said they are also serving a Davao Harvest Platter, which includes durian, mangosteen, and pomelo.
What are you waiting for? For your next eat out with your friends or family, have it here at Cafe Laguna and enjoy rustic Filipino food.
Cafe Laguna open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is located at Azuela Cove, Lanang, Davao City, in front of the Phoenix Gasoline station.
