The Grand Sagala Parade

LAST May 19, SM City Davao once again hosted the Grand Sagala Parade which featured 10 little muses and terno renditions of 14 Davao-based designers. The event aimed at promoting the Filipino National Heritage through recreating the traditional "Santa Cruzan."

The young girls wore their best gowns; and showed off their charms were Jamaica Carbajal, Ann Louise Yretarino, Candesse Bartolome, Nathea Mangahas, Rania Muller, Florence Asistido, Caitlin Fabroa, Jeahfain Cabrera, Christina Reuyan and Samantha Garcia.

Now on its 10th year, the SM Davao Sagala Gown Design Competition continues to provide an avenue for young fashion designers to improve their crafts. Making it to the top 14 were Richard Pulatche, Brianne Sustento, Joao Tarepe, Maru Bernalte, John Paul Balderoso, Joey Hambala, Jeri Mamoto Oxales, Egay Ayag, Nicky De Asis, Oscar Carlo Ibasco, Aries Buenvenida, Jerson Tandingan, Marlon Suan and Zhaira Rai Deiparine.

Six-year old Florence Asistido bagged the first prize for the Little Sagala Competition while Candesse Bartolome, 7, and Rania Muller, 9, ranked 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Judging for the Little Sagalas were Krispy Kreme Asst. Marketing Manager-VisMin and former Binibining Pilipinas International Nadia Shami, Park Inn by Radisson PR Manager and lifestyle writer Meg Sta Ines, and Zoofari proprietor Jason Martinez.

Davao's top fashion stylist Otoi Mercado, ace photographer and lifestyle writer Jojie Alcantara and Kaliwat resident production designer Jelita Acenas were the judges for the Sagala Gown Design Competition. Adjudged winning entries were Egay Ayag's metallic red piece (1st place), Joey Hambala's white beaded frock (2nd place) and Maru Bernalte's grey number (3rd place).
