At least 50 children were brought to a hospital in Davao City after eating possibly contaminated puto (steamed rice cake), a radio report said Sunday.

Two of the children remained in serious condition and remain confined at a local hospital, radio dzBB reported.

As of Sunday afternoon, the report said two boys aged 6 and 9 remained in serious condition.

Initial investigation showed the children found the puto near a trash bin and ate it.

The puto reportedly contained kamoteng kahoy (cassava), the report said.

Local authorities are investigating who left the puto there, along with other circumstances surrounding the incident.
