THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Davao City recorded a total of 12 fire incidents as of March 5 even as the bureau kicked off the Fire Prevention Month.

Fire Officer 3 Ramil Gillado, of the BFP Davao City Fire District, said the number of fire incidents is quite higher as compared to March 2013 with 10, including grass and vehicle fire incidents.

The recent fire happened at New Asia Inc., Pacific Oil Compound on Km 21 in Bunawan on Wednesday around 4:10 a.m. wherein the incident was discovered by a security guard identified as Marcelo Salde.

Records obtained from the bureau showed that Salde was near the area when he heard an unusual noise in the establishment.

He said he was alarmed when he saw that Windows 8 and 9 at the cashier's office were on fire.

Gillado said firefighters from various fire stations took more than two hours before they were able to control the fire that spread to other parts of the establishment where oil products and copra were stored.

He said no one was hurt in the incident that was pegged at around P500,000. He added that electrical short circuit caused the fire incident.

A fire also hit a grassy portion of Diversion Road in Barangay Angliongto and Bangkal around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The same incident also happened at Purok 8 of San Jose Communal in Tibungco on Tuesday around 7:10 p.m.

Gillado reminded the public to be more cautious to avoid fire incidents, especially summer is fast approaching.
