The Big Davao Fun Sale will run starting today until April 16, 2014.
The participating malls are Abreeza Mall, NCCC Mall of Davao, Robinsons, Gaisano Mall of Davao, Gaisanao Mall of Toril, SM City Davao, and SM Lanang Premier.
The event is spearheaded by the Retail Association of Davao and supported by the Department of Tourism-Davao (DOT 11), the City Government of Davao, and the Philippine Retailers Association.
The fun sale will begin with two motorcades, one will start at the SM City Davao and the other at the SM Lanang Premier, both will end at the Rizal Park for the opening activity.
The month-long activity will feature different products on sale every week; March 14 to 16 will be a mall-wide general sale; March 17 to 23 will be on health and beauty, March 24 to 30 will be on electronics and gadgets; March 31 to April 6 will be on home and travel; and April 7 to 16 will be on fashion and active lifestyle. Dining, crafts, fruits, and flowers are on sale in the whole event. Midnight sale will be held from March 14 to 15.
During the Big Davao Fun Sale launch at the Marco Polo Hotel in January, DOT assistant secretary Art Boncato Jr. said this will be first in the Philippines that a city is branding itself as not only a prime tourism destination in the country but also as a major shopping hub.
DOT 11 chief tourism operations officer Eden Josephine L. David told reporters that the event will also support the city's bid as a major destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibits (Mice).
Aside from shopping, shoppers can participate in the event's passport system and get a chance to win P100,000 in the raffle draw.
Shoppers can secure their fun sale passport in two ways; first, if they are arriving at the F. Bangoy International Airport, they simply have to present their boarding passes at the DOT booth to claim one. Second, present a one-time purchase or accumulated receipts worth P500 at the DOT booths in the participating malls, the passport can only be availed on the same day of purchase.
The passport shows a map of all the participating malls, in which a shopper receives a stamp for a minimum purchase of P500. Once completed, the shoppers will then submit it to designated DOT booths for raffle and to claim token shirt.
The Restaurants Association Davao Inc., will also spearhead a food festival in time for the event with some 100 participating establishments. The malls lined up special events and parties.
"The Big Davao Fun Sale in March is precisely the perfect time to experience four weeks of shopping spree and enjoy great premium deals that all seven malls in the City of Davao will offer. What makes it more fun is it coincides with the Araw ng Dabaw celebration, which highlights the culture, ingenuity, and warmth of the Dabawenyos. It's going to be a thrilling experience," DOT secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. said in a statement.
