Chief organizer Ines P. Mallari of the Datu Uchida Development Foundation (DUDF), who was guest with Davao City Baseball Association (DCBA) president Joaquin “Boy” Sarabia in yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center, said that the number of participating teams continues to grow since they started nine years ago.
Mallari said that 12 teams will compete in the elementary division while seven teams in the secondary division.
“The event is not only exclusive to Davao City baseball teams. We welcome the participation of Asbang Elok Elementary School and Magsaysay Academy Inc. of Davao del Sur and Maryknoll High School of New Corella of Davao del Norte” she said.
A cash prize of P 8,000 plus trophies and medals are at stake for the champion. The second place takes home P4,000 while P2,000 for the third-placer. They will also receive plaques and baseball equipment plus cash prize and medal to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) courtesy of Tokyo Kichijoji Lions Club (TKLC).
She also said that they raised a total of P70,000 from the three bazaars they organized in July and October last year and in January this year.
She added that on March 27, Tawantawan Elementary School, Talomo Central Elementary School, Antonio Pichon Jr. Elementary School and Mulig Elementary School will play in advance because their graduation rites fall on March 28.
The opening ceremony starts on March 28 at 8 a.m. while a team fellowship will be conducted at 4 p.m. of the same day. A total of 10-12 games will be played each day in the knockout system event.
Sarabia meanwhile said that with the addition of Davao Del Sur and Davao Del Norte they expect more action in the tournament, “We have not seen the strengths of these visiting teams but I heard that one or two of these teams competed in the Davraa Meet.
