THE upstream widening in Davao River Bridge in Ma-a was finally completed on Monday, June 26, and is officially opened for vehicle operators starting Tuesday.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Davao Region Spokesperson Dean Ortiz, in an interview, said vehicle drivers can now use the additional two lanes of the bridge, providing a total of four lanes for public use.

"The newly opened four lane bridge will somehow aid the traffic congestion in the area while we are still working on the additional two more lanes in the downstream part of the bridge which will finish next year," Ortiz said.

The construction of the additional two lanes in the downstream part, he added, has just begun this month to provide six lanes in Davao River Bridge. Still, Ortiz assured motorists that it will not affect the traffic situation along Diversion Road.

Ortiz, however, said they might use one lane from the upstream portion for some technical reasons, yet he ascertained that they will only use it occasionally and most often during dawn when less number of vehicles passes on the bridge.

"We are trying our best to stick to our time frame and avoid any delays to deal will the traffic issue in the city as fast as we can," he said.
