DCPO chief apologizes to 3 journalists

"I am personally apologizing sa nahitabo. My apologies. Pasenysa na mo, day," Danao said during a radio interview with DxAB Radyo Patrol on Wednesday evening.
Danao admitted he failed to keep his cool when Ivy Tejano of Sun.Star Davao, Maria Cecilia Badian of Mindanao Times, and Armando Fenequito of Edge Davao came into his office for an interview on Monday.
Danao lost his temper when the three reporters tried to get his reaction on the progress report posted by the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) on their "media folder" posted outside their office last Saturday.
"It so happened na it was in the midst of challenging times sa Davao. Nangyari ito so medyo pagod tayo. I am just human. I was just burned-out. My sincere apology sa pangyayari," he said.
He said he was overstressed since the killing of lawyer Emmanuel Acuña to the death of businessman TY Garcia to the robbery in Central Convenience Store and a rape case involving a young girl.
He explained that he reacted that way since the information that reached the media was confidential and still needed an in-depth investigation. Danao said his public apology came after the challenge raised by the AFP-PNP Press Corps Davao Region.
"The AFP-PNP Press Corps 11 condemns the action of Davao City Police Office director Sr. Supt. Vicente Danao in berating the media for publishing the names of the persons of interest in the King murder case," the group said in a statement.
"But at the same time we understand his situation as DCPO chief and of his worry on the possible repercussions of the publication of the names of POIs. The incident was unfortunate. But it could have been avoided if only cooler heads prevailed," the media group added.
