The Davao City government is cracking down on its own employees and officials who are into drugs, as Mayor Sara Duterte ordered random drug tests for them. Duterte said the order to continue the random drug tests this year covers not only employees at City Hall but also officials, including her department heads.

Her order stemmed from reports she received that some government employees in the city are into drugs, radio dzBB's Davao affiliate reported Thursday.

She said the use of illegal drugs has tarnished the image of public servants in the city.

The mayor pointed out five members of the city's traffic management center had been charged in September 2011, after they were found positive for drugs.

At the time, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 11 conducted the drug testing.
