DPWH: All systems go for Samal Island-Davao City Connector project

All systems are now ready for the construction of a bridge connecting Davao City and Samal Island in Mindanao as the project was officially launched on Wednesday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
The scale model of the 3.98-kilometer Samal Island-Davao City Connector project was unveiled during the visit of Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other key officials at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) office.
The Department of Finance in June said that the Philippines and China exchanged documents for a RMB2.34 billion or approximately P17.39 billion loan to finance the construction of the said two-way, four-lane bridge project under the Duterte administration’s Build, Build, Build program.
In a statement, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the construction of the toll-free project is “good news” to commuters and motorists in Davao Region as it will allow them to go from Samal Island to Davao City and vice versa in five minutes.
With an indicative cost of P23.039 billion, DPWH said the project will connect the Samal Circumferential Road in Barangay Limao, Island Garden City of Samal to Davao City in between R. Castillo-Daang Maharlika junction, crossing over Pakiputan Strait.
