Police said one of the dead suspects–the driver–was wearing a 2007 army ring.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has already ordered the lock down of all city exit and entry points as police track down two other members of the Byebye kidnap-for-ransom group.
Earlier, Duterte has warned criminals to stay away or leave the city. It was explicite warning.
The shootout happened while the suspects were supposed to withdraw the money in a downtown bank.
Police confirmed that the victim, Sally Chua, who is celebrating her 52nd birthday tomorrow, Friday, was the one who instructed the kidnapper that the payoff of P15 million is done in Davao.
“She was confident that she will be rescued here,” said Police Senior Supt. Ronald dela Rosa, director of the Davao City Police Office.
Duterte, who rushed to the scene, had only one thing to say.
“I only have one statement. I told the criminals not to f— it here in Davao,” he said.
