Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City sought the help of the National Government to fast track the city's plan to improve their water egress to the sea.

Duterte said the city needs financial assistance to clear the waterways from silt and informal settlers. He added that Davao City never fails in “sending [their] share to the treasury of government” so they will now ask the National Government for their “rightful share.” The Mayor said the waterway needs to be cleared again from silt, garbage and informal settlers to speed up the flow of floodwater to the sea during heavy downpour. However, He said they have to conduct again a survey before starting the project to determine the number of the families that need to be relocated and will be affected by the said project.
