Davao bowler captures bronze

A YOUNG but very promising bowler from Davao City captured a bronze medal for Team Philippines in the recent 13th Asian School Bowling Championships in Thailand. Janine Kuwahara of the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) teamed up with Marie Alexis Sy, Dyan Arcel Coronacion and Madeline Mae Llamas of Team Prima to finish third in a team event.

The PH girl bowlers scored 4632 in the event to settle for third. Japan had 4767 to win the gold and Korea amassed 4742 to collect the silver medal.

Kuwahara was also part of the five-member Datba team that competed in the 5th Singapore Sports School-Opulent International Bowling Championship last month.

Marie Alexis Sy of Cebu, who went with the Davao bowlers to Singapore recently for a tournament, got a gold in the singles and a bronze in the Masters event in Thailand.

Overall, the Filipino bowlers, who were sponsored by Prima Pasta, bagged six medals composed of one gold one bronze in the singles event, a silver and a bronze in the team event, one bronze in the all-events and one bronze medal in the Masters.

Team Philippines was supported in the Thailand campaign by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) headed by its chairman Richie Garcia and the Philippine Bowling Congress (PBC).
