The Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 will be embarking on a crackdown on policemen who will be caught entering nightclubs here in Davao region.

PRO–11 Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales made this disclosure following the directive of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Oscar Albayalde that prohibits policemen from entering “places devoted to vices.”

Morales urged all his personnel in Davao region to stay out of the pubs and nightclubs. He said those policemen who will be caught violating this policy will be subjected to PNP Internal Cleansing Program.

“If you are off-duty, why don’t you go to the malls and tag your wife and children with you? In the kind of work that we have, quality time with family is important. It is better to go to family-oriented entertainment places,” Morales said.

To add teeth to the PNP chief’s directive barring police personnel from entering pubs and/or nightclubs, Morales said police commanders in the region will be held responsible should any of their personnel be caught patronizing nightclub or any funhouses establishments.

“This is a specific directive from the chief executive, and violation of which is tantamount to grave misconduct that is punishable by dismissal from the service,” he added.

Morales said a policeman is only allowed to consume alcoholic beverages within the confines of his home or private households so as “not to taint the image of the PNP.”

Morales reminded all personnel to observe proper decorum and be disciplined at all the times in keeping the rules and regulations of the organization in accord with PNP’s Ethical Doctrine and the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Standards.

The directive emphasized specifically designated nightclubs, beer gardens, karaoke bars, and pubs, as strictly off limits to all PNP personnel, including establishments of ill-repute and illegal gambling dens.

Albayalde, in his press statement sent to the media, said he received the instructions of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, through Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Ano, on the existing rules and regulations prohibiting police personnel from bars, nightclubs, and similar drinking places and establishments.
