The Department of Tourism in Region 11 (DOT-11) is confident on the safety and security of tourists visiting the region amid concerns on Mindanao’s situation following the twin bomb explosions in a church in Jolo, Sulu, on Sunday.

DOT-11 Director Tanya Rabat-Tan said her office regularly coordinates with authorities on the region's security situation and “we rely on them.”

During Tuesday's Biz Forum at DermPath, Tan said the strong collaboration with the security sector has enabled the DOT to gain the confidence of their stakeholders, who appreciate being regularly updated on the region's peace and order situation.

"We have many markets and we need to build more," she said, adding the region continues to draw positive interests from domestic and international tourists.

Tan said DOT is also accrediting more tourism-related establishments, mostly hotels and restaurants, which will be included in the DOT's promotional campaigns showcasing the region's destination and other tourism products.
