"Visit Philippines Year 2015" (VPY2015) and the Big Davao Fun Sale are set to sweep this city as thousands of residents joined the formal opening of these Department of Tourism (DOT) spearheaded programs during the Second Torotot Festival, a festivity that greeted the coming of the New Year.

The event was graced by top officials of Davao City, including Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and DOT Assistant Secretary Art Boncato Jr.

In a statement sent to Manila Bulletin here, Boncato said that the Philippines was all set to become an even more exciting destination in 2015 with the VPY2015.

“We request Dabawenyos to join the DOT in inviting visitors to the country to experience the enduring promise of the worldwide tourism campaign— It’s more fun in the Philippines,” Boncato said.

During the festival, a short film clip of the campaign, entitled “15 Ways to Have Fun in the Philippines” was shown to partygoers that was followed by the countdown that officially greeted the entry of 2015.

The VPY2015 was formally launched here in September last year with the aim of highlighting tourism in various parts of the country, Boncato added.

Major events in the region for VPY2015 include the Visit Davao Fun Sale; the Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge; and the Visit Samal Islands.

“Davao region received close to 1.8 million visitors in 2013 and we are confident of an increase in 2014 with the numbers to be finally tallied at the end of this month”, Boncato pointed out.
