15th Davao Horse Show launch set Saturday night

THE 15th Davao Horse Show and Competition, dubbed as the longest running horse show in the Philippines, will be launched during the induction of new set of officers of organizing Davao Horse Club at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Riverfront Stables, Crocodile Park in Maa.

Incoming DHC president George W. Misa, who was a guest at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA), said the competition will be held on May 1 to 3, 2014.

He said the annual horse show and competition features barrel racing, oval race, horse jumping and equestrian, among others.

“There will be youth, beginners, intermediate and expert divisions at the same time an auxiliary division exclusive for the horses’ caretakers,” he said.

Misa said that aside from Davao City-based riders, horsemen from Cebu, Bohol, Cagayan de Oro City, Bukidnon, Dumaguete and Clark Pampanga are also coming.

Davao City bets Andy Tan, Patrick Tuazon, Jake Tuazon and Ding Gonzalez and family are expected to participate.

“Our event is a part of Davao City's Summer Sports Festival and is a major activity of the club this year," he said.

Misa, meanwhile, will be sworn in along with newly-elected vice-president Ricky Tan, treasurer Vic Noble and secretary Tito Sorongon during the oath-taking rites to be graced by Dept. of Tourism assistant secretary Arturo Boncato Jr., Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in- charge William “Butch” Ramirez, Cebu horse rider Anton Quisumbing and Department of Agriculture (DA) assistant regional director, Dr. Rafael Mercado.
