Village chieftain shot dead in Davao

A village chieftain was shot to death today by his councilor, who committed suicide after, police said.

The incident occurred inside the village hall of Demoloc, Malita town in Davao del Sur province at around 03:00 p.m. local time, said Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. Police identified the village captain as Clara Baliota, while the killer was councilor Leobardo Laingo, who killed himself by shooting his right temple using a caliber .45 pistol.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, said Cruz.
