Smarter Philippines launched in Davao

Casambre said DOST specifically chose to launch the project in Davao after the City Government launched its Smarter City project with the IBM.
The Smarter Philippines, which will be utilizing the potentials of the Internet, will be incorporated to six core areas including Smarter Government, Smarter Economy, Smarter Environment, Smarter Mobility, Smarter Living and Smarter People.
The program primarily aims to deliver the basic services that the government has been providing to its citizens but with the help of the internet and improved technology and connectivity.
"Technology plays a key role in fulfilling our aspirations reflected in the program we launch today: the Smarter Philippines Program. We should all certainly embrace technology, but we should also remember that technology is a means to an end, an end which has at its core a better life for all. Man should be the master of technology and not the other way around," Casambre said.
To address and provide feasible solutions to changing world and climate, one of the main components of the Smarter City Project is the Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards that combines various technologies to develop environmental hazard models that will be integrated in the government's weather monitoring systems.
"The objective of Medium-Term ICT Harmonization Initiative (MITHI) is basically to be smarter at how the national government leverages ICTs by leveraging shared services, common infrastructure, interoperability, accessibility to data, which are really are but a few of the benefits the MITHI program will produce," Casambre said.
