Davao City announced before dawn Tuesday the suspension of classes up to the high school level due to inclement weather caused by Tropical Depression Crising. "PRESCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL classes are SUSPENDED on Feb. 19, due to Tropical Depression Crising which is expected to bring heavy rains in Davao City," The Davao City government said in a 3:28 a.m. Twitter post.

It also said the suspension of classes in college and post-graduate level as well as office work "shall be left to the discretion of school authorities and employers."

This latest announcement amends an earlier Monday night suspension of only preschool level classes.

PAGASA, in its 11 p.m. bulletin, had said Crising maintained its strength and threatens Southeastern Mindanao.

Placed under Storm Signal No. 1 were:

Davao del Norte
Davao del Sur including Samal Island
Davao Oriental
Compostela Valley
Southern part of Surigao del Sur
Agusan del Sur
Lanao del Norte
Lanao del Sur
North Cotabato
Sultan Kudarat
South Cotabato

PAGASA warned residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under Storm Signal 1 to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides.

It added rainfall of 5 to 15 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) may be expected in the 300-km diameter of Tropical Depression Crising.
