THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region will host the 1st National Industry Cluster Investment Conference (Nicip) slated at SMX Convention Center Davao on June 7-8, this year. DTI regional director Marizon Loreto, in an interview during the CSO and Stakeholders Consultation at the Grand Men Seng Hotel Tuesday, said about 700 to 1,000 participants all over the country will converge in the city for the two-day event.

Foreign investors are also expected to attend. The event will highlight the 32 priority industry clusters from all regions nationwide.

Among the identified priority industry clusters are bamboo, banana, cacao, coconut, dairy, health and wellness, coffee, and information communications technology (ICT), metals, pangasius, palm oil, tourism, and tuna.

"We will make sure that they will be featured during the conference," she said.

The 1st Nicip will provide business opportunities for the industry players either possible business ventures, and foreign direct investments (FDIs) through business matching.

"We'll know which cluster has ready project for business ventures and foreign direct investments," she said.

Loreto added the two-day conference will not be centered on investments, but also the marketing aspect of a business will also be highlighted.

"There will be exhibits. The exhibits will not be in terms of products, but about information on the investments. There will be collaterals and investment profiles, and industry briefs," she said.

DTI 11 has tied up with Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) and other government agencies such as Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for this event.

The conference is an offshoot of the success of Davao Industry Cluster Capacity Enhancement Project (Diccep), the reason why the 1st two-day conference will be staged in Davao City.

"We started with Diccep. This is no being replicated to Nicip. All regions for that matter have already identified their own priority industry clusters. This is one way of putting together all our efforts and highlight different industry clusters," she said.
