Cop shot dead in Davao del Norte city

Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot and killed a policeman along a busy street in this city late Sunday afternoon, police said. Police Officer 3 Edwin de Guzman died to multiple gunshot wounds after being attacked by two assailants along Sobrecarey Street, Barangay (village) Magugpo Poblacion past 4 p.m., Senior Inspector Gretchen Cinco, of the Tagum police station, said.

Senior Inspector Cinco said De Guzman, who was assigned at the San Isidro municipal police station, in San Isidro, Davao Oriental, and resident of Dreamville Subdivision, Barangay Visayan Village here, was driving a motorcycle from the Tagum City Sports Complex, a cockpit arena in Canocotan village, when fired at by the suspects tailing him.

“Residents near the crime scene heard several gunshots and minutes later, saw a TMX motorcycle without license plates with two persons onboard speeding off,” Cinco told reporters.

The police official said an investigation is now being conducted into the incident.
