DepEd 11 orders inspection of private, public schools in Davao region

The Department of Education (DepEd) 11 has ordered all Schools Division Superintendents and Private School Owners in Davao Region to conduct inspections of their structures.
DepEd 11 spokesperson Jenielito Atillo said in a phone interview, all structures must be checked along with the structural engineers to ensure its integrity and for the safety of the students and teachers.
“Since, there are no classes already in the public schools, this will be the right time to check thoroughly their classrooms and offices, ” he said.
He said all public schools must coordinate with their local engineering offices or with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the conduct of inspection.
Atillo said, Regional Director Evelyn Fetalvero has emphasized that no one should go inside the structures prior to inspection and until assurance of its structural integrity is cleared.
Meanwhile, Davao City Acting Mayor Sebastian Duterte already released a proclamation to cancel classes in all levels due to the 6.9-magnitude earthquake.
The suspension has been released to give way to adequate inspection to be done by qualified engineers on the structures.
Resumption of classes on Tuesday, December 17, shall be on a case to case basis, depending on the assessment of the authorities.
In Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte, Mayor Ernesto Evangelista also ordered the suspension of classes for the conduct adequate assessment on the extent of damages on buildings and public structures which will be done by disaster officers and municipal engineers.
Classes are already suspended in Tagum City.
