DAVAO Archbishop Romulo Valles is not making any comment on the latest controversy involving Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Catholic Church leader Pope Francis.

Duterte was criticized for allegedly cursing at the pope during his speech Monday.

Duterte said, “Gusto kong tawagan, Pope p****** i** ka, umuwi ka na. ‘Wag ka nang magbisita dito."

The mayor, however, clarified later that his cursing was vented towards the government's failure to do pre-emptive measures to improve the traffic situation during the papal visit in Metro Manila last January.
Duterte said he was stuck in traffic for five hours during the papal visit.

Duterte apologized to all those who thought that he was cursing at the pope.

In an interview Monday evening, Duterte even offered to withdraw from the presidential race if ever the Catholic Church hierarchy demands for it.

In a text message Tuesday morning, Valles said it would be "difficult to comment on a point that I have not read nor familiar with."

The archbishop said that he is on a retreat at the moment.
