Health authorities in Davao Region urged residents to celebrate the Yuletide season joyfully without sacrificing their health.

In a health advisory, Dr. Teogenes Baluma, Region 11 office of the Department of Health (DoH 11) director, called on the people to observe moderation in food and beverages intake during merry making and other holiday activities. He said party meals must be well-balanced with vegetable and fruits on the table with traditional ham and queso de bola.

“Be kind to your heart. Eat a moderate amount of nutritious foods to sustain daily activities,” Baluma said. He also encouraged drinking plenty of water and fruit juices to facilitate excretion. Baluma also said that taking of alcoholic drinks should also be moderate. “Never drive a vehicle if you are drunk,” he said.

On merry making, Baluma suggested that to make the surroundings joyful, residents may resort to loud music, blowing horns and beating tin cans than using firecrackers.

“In areas, outside Davao City without total ban on firecrackers, local government units must designate a common fireworks display area for purposes of watching and to avoid injuries that may arise due to fireworks explosion,” he said.
