Davao City prepares for Population Census 2015, starts August 10

DAVAO CITY (PIA) An officer of the Philippine Statistics Authority Davao del Sur urged the public to cooperate in population survey that will be conducted nationwide from August 10 to September 6, 2015.
Randolf Anthony Gales, director of the PSA-Davao del Sur said the survey dubbed as the 2015 Census of Population is a complete enumeration of households in the country, designed primarily to take an inventory of the population nationwide.
He said the 2015 Census of Populations collects information about the characteristics of the population such as age, sex, marital status and highest degree of education completed.
Gales said it will be the 145h census of the population to be undertaken in whole country since the first census in 1903.
He said it will be the third population census to be conducted in two decennial censuses.
Previous to the POPCEN 2015 were the mid-decade census carried out in 1995 and 2007.
“The POPCEN 2015 aims to provide government executives, policy and decision makers and planners with population data especially updated population counts of all barangays in the country of which to base their social and economic development plans, policies and programs,” Gales said.
He revealed the current population of Davao City stands at 1.4 Million in 2010 while 4.5 Million in all of Davao Region, respectively.
Gales said a total of 1,600 enumerators will be deployed on the field to conduct the survey.
He said every five enumerators will be managed by one supervisor.
“Our government needs an updated data of our population that is why we have this med-decade census every five years,” Gales said.
He appealed to the residents to cooperate with the enumerators so that the exact data will be realized.
