PURSUING government troops gunned down late Friday two lawless armed men said to be behind the harassment of a militia detachment in a remote village in Davao del Sur province early this week, military reports said Saturday.

Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo, the military general headquarters in Manila, on Saturday identified the fatalities as a certain “Anting Peayay” and one alias “Victor”.

Elements of Task Force Kitaco killed them in pursuit operations against gunmen who harassed a militia detachment in Sitio Aliong, Brgy. Kimlawis, Kiblawan of said province.

The reports said that two rifles were recovered from their possession.

The two were reportedly among the gunmen who shot dead militiaman Romeo Marila and wounded two others in a militia detachment under the jurisdiction of the Army’s 1002nd Infantry Brigade.

Brigade commander, Colonel Marcos Norman Flores said that the militia detachment has been under harassment from lawless elements since January this year.

“The pursuit operation was also our measure to protect our own forces from further attacks. That detachment has been subject for harassment since January,” Flores said.
