As part of measures to ensure security during the celebration of 'Kadayawan' festival here, the city council has passed a resolution on Tuesday, August 6, prohibiting everyone from carrying backpacks especially during the conduct of the street and floral parade.

The resolution was introduced by Councilor Edgar Ibuyan, the council’s chair on peace and order committee.

Councilor Ibuyan added that aside from carrying of backpacks, vehicles and motorcycles will also be barred to enter the parade routes.

The resolution stated that individuals carrying backpacks will be prohibited from entering the identified routes of the parade and street dance unless properly inspected by security personnel.

The same resolution added that as a temporary measure, vehicles would be prohibited to encroach and position on streets designated as parade routes.

Councilor Ibuyan urged the public to use clear plastic bags if they need to bring important things while watching the parade and street dance.

Davao City Vice-Mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, when interviewed by the media on Tuesday, also encouraged the public not to bring other bags as part of the security measures to be undertaken by the city government.
