The Provincial Government has formally opened on Friday, April 8, 2016 a new state-of-the-artProvincial Dialysis Center making hemodialysis convenient and readily accessible to patients with kidney problems here in the province.

With this new promising facility, patients here who are having regular kidney dialysis no longer have totravel outside the province, particularly in major cities, just to undergo treatment, where they have to endure high living and traveling expenses.

Situated at the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center Complex in the City of Mati, this new facility is equipped with 22 dialysis machines, a spacious waiting area, comfortable chairs, television sets, full air-conditioning, and trained medical staff to cater dialysis patients, among others.

For its operation, the Provincial Government has partnered up with AVIDA -- a company widelyknown for its dialysis services. While the Provincial Government has provided the building, interiors and necessary amenities, AVIDA will provide the services and most of the equipment. While making sure that the cost for dialysis is affordable for all, the facility will also become another source of revenue for the hospital.

Considered as another groundbreaking initiative of Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon, the establishment of this new dialysis center is part of the Provincial Government’s continuous upgrading and expansion of health facilities which anchors on her belief that the poor deserve equal health care services as much as the rich.

“A healthy nation is a progressive nation. A government that cannot provide its people with adequate health care system has no reason for its existence.I have always been guided by this philosophy and from the start of my involvement in public service, I have taken it both as my personal and official commitment to ensure that my constituents are provided with, at the very least, basic healthcare,” said Gov. Malanyaon.

Department of Health XI Regional Director Dr. Abdullah B. Dumama, Jr., during the inaugural ceremony, congratulated the Provincial Government under the leadership of Governor Malanyaon for making this initiative. “I am proud of what you did here,” said Dumama, noting his hopes that there should be more facilities and initiatives such as this in other parts of the country.

A true advocate of healthcare and champion of the poor, Gov. Malanyaon has successfully established new healthcare facilities in the province, including the upgrading of the Provincial Hospital which is now considered a great landmark and a legacy to future generations. Other facilities constructed are the Out-Patient Department, private and semi-private rooms, blood bank, and multi-diagnostic center, among many others.

“There are those who may be awed by the beauty and magnificence of our hospital and its state-of-the art equipment and facilities that can compare even with the private hospitals. There may be some who will question the wisdom of spending so much resources on a public hospital. I say to them the people of Davao Oriental deserve better. The poor people of Davao Oriental-the ones who cannot afford the services of a private hospital- deserve as much health care as the rich.,” she said.

As her three term as governor of Davao Oriental will end on June this year, Governor Malanyaon expressed her hopes that all the projects and programs that she has already established will be taken care of by the next administration. “It is not for me but for the people of Davao Oriental.”
