Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are urged to participate in the slated job fairs in the region in time for the observance of Labor Day on May 1 (Wednesday).

Department of Labor and Employment regional director Joffrey Suyao assured that everyone is welcome, especially the PWDs to choose and apply from among the more than 30,000 jobs to be opened during the job fair events.

Suyao said his office is coordinating with the officers of PWDs organizations to discuss on the physical set up to provide convenience for the PWDs during the application and interview procedures.

“We could arrange for whatever needs of the PWDs such as wheelchairs,” he said in a press conference last week.

DOLE-XI will spearhead three simultaneous job fairs on May 1 at SM City Davao and Gaisano Mall in Davao City, and at Gaisano Mall in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

The Gaisano Mall Davao will continue its job fair on May 2.

The DOLE official said that aside from the opportunity that the job fair provides for the PWDs, the department has also regular assistance for this sector, such as self-employment and livelihood projects and entrepreneurship training.

Meanwhile, from the 30,893 to be offered during the job fair events in Davao City, 2,980 job vacancies will come from 131 local firms, while 17,977 overseas jobs come from 51 companies.

For Tagum City’s job fair, about 750 jobs have been solicited from 25 companies, and 19,497 vacancies from 15 firms abroad.

Suyao said the celebration of Labor Day in the region will commence with a Holy Mass at 8:00 am at San Pedro Cathedral to be attended by officials and employees of DOLE, its attached agencies and other invited national government agencies.
