DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte lauded nine bus companies in the Davao region for their "exemplary act of volunteerism" after the recent nationwide multisectoral transport caravan by militant groups. Speaking during the weekly media briefing in her office on Monday, Duterte said the bus companies have contributed a lot in ensuring the success of the city's contingency plan of fielding more buses on major thoroughfares to cater to commuters who may be affected by the protest actions.

"We did not find it difficult to look for resources to ferry the stranded passengers who need to report for work during that day," she said.

Duterte earlier said that while she commiserates on the issues of the strike, she also has the duty to preserve the interest not only of the militant groups but also of the public in general.

Slated to receive their respective Certificates of Appreciation from the City Government of Davao are: Bus manager De Carlo L. Uy of Davao Metro Shuttle; manager Jomar S. Bermillo of Bachelor Express Inc.; Neill Y. Callao, owner of Yellow Bus Line Inc. and Annil Transport Service Inc.; Edgardo L. Valdevieso owner of Weena Express Inc.; Dr. Peter Raymond Confessor, owner of CC JRC Inc.; Jaime P. Uy, manager of Davao Holiday Trans Service Corp.; Teofilo Arcales, manager of Davao del Norte Express; and Maryland Fontanilla – Sy, owner of Davao ACF Bus Line, Inc.

"They (bus companies) did not ask something from the City Government and we also did not give something to them except our usual support on food provision," she added.
