A site believed to be a manufacturing area for improvised explosive devices of the New People’s Army (NPA) was discovered by soldiers of the 67th Infantry Battalion Thursday. Reports said the Army unit was conducting security clearing operations in Brgy. Taocanga, Davao Oriental when they saw the site.

Authorities recovered two anti-armor mines and four anti-personnel mines that were already completed, several kilos of unknown white and black substance, and assorted components for making improvised explosive devices.

Lt. Col. Lyndon Paniza said the discovery probably saved lives of civilians who could have been victims of indiscriminate explosion.

“We are very lucky in discovering the cache before the armed group used the hidden paraphernalia in creating yet another destructive improvised explosive device,” he added.
